It did annoy me anyway, though, since some of the things he did seemed too dim-witted. I have mixed feelings about it because some people do dumb things for love, but personally, I felt his numbness was a bit too extreme at times.Kristenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01700004253248186101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5146259764837045872.post-2360504248294464722009-02-03T19:34:00.000-05:002009-02-03T19:34:00.000-05:00Before reading your review I had high hopes for th...Before reading your review I had high hopes for the Jackals of Nar. I've read a few glowing reviews including the one mentioend at Speculative Horizons.

Your review has me a bit nervous as you mention Richius's moronic decision making. This is one of the things I hate about novels in any genre and completely kill it for me. When characters don't act true to the nature that the author has tried to create.

Thanks for showing the flipside of the coin on this book.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5146259764837045872.post-60940468185415715152009-02-01T16:33:00.000-05:002009-02-01T16:33:00.000-05:00Thrinidir - Thanks, I hope it made sense. It's a lot easier to just say "I had a lot of problems with it and that's why I didn't like it." I find it harder to explain that I had some issues but found it kept me reading and wanting to find out what happened next anyway.

Edifanob - I actually did mostly enjoy the book once it got going - it just also had a lot of flaws that bothered me, too. It wasn't enough to keep me from wanting to find out what happened, though, and a lot of the secondary characters were interesting.

I actually already linked to the review at Speculative Horizons at the bottom of the review (as well as a review at SF Site).Kristenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01700004253248186101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5146259764837045872.post-64131114909881781672009-02-01T14:17:00.000-05:002009-02-01T14:17:00.000-05:00ThRiNiDiR mentioned Speculative Horizons. It think you pulled it through quite elegantly. Otherwise, I think John Marco is one of James' (Speculative Horizons) favored authors.ThRiNiDiRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11235487104345529619noreply@blogger.com
