Earlier today I saw that Goodreads just had a Q&A with Neil Gaiman. For an hour, Gaiman stopped by and answered questions fans put up on Goodreads. It was a lot of fun to read through and I wish I'd known about it beforehand to stop by.
I'm hoping to get a review up this weekend of either The Silver Metal Lover or Last Argument of Kings; I haven't had much time to read or review and probably won't have as much time until the middle of July. Unfortunately, I'm finding it really difficult to read In the Night Garden when I don't have much time for reading. It's not that it's a bad book because it's not at all; it's just one where reading a few pages at a time doesn't work very well - and that's exactly what I've ended up doing, just reading 10 pages or so before bedtime.

That was my impression of Orphan's Tales as well - because of the ultra-nested structure, you're inside 4-5 stories at the same time, and stopping is impossible. It was either read it all in one breath or not at all. I got to about page 200 and then ran out of breath, and haven't picked it up since. But if you make it through, then I promise to do it too soon! Palimpsest had a much more traditional structure by comparison, and was easy to read in a few days.
Thank you for the heads up Kristen!
As for reading - there are just some books that require a more...long-term approach :) But it's frustrating when you don't have the time to dedicate!
I'm totally with you on this one Kristen. Like Nephtis, once I put Orphans Tales down, I found it really hard to get back into. Then when work got in the way, I could only find shorter periods of time to read (mainly only during the crush of subway rush hour) and eventually I completely forgot about the book only remembering it now after you talked about it. Sadly, I thought the book was fascinating, just a bit too dense if you don't have a dedicated schedule or block of time to read. Good luck with it. I hope you have more success than I did because Is still think it's a captivating read.
Nephtis - Yes, In the Night Garden is a difficult book to find a stopping place for. I did find I enjoyed it a lot more when I had some time to sit down and read a good chunk of it yesterday. It is a very good book so I'll have to check out Palimpsest since being easier to read in more than one sitting sounds great! I read the Cinderella retelling last night and loved it.
Orannia - It is frustrating when you don't have the time for a longer and/or more complex book. I started to read Cry Wolf instead but decided I should persevere since I had at least a little more time to read over the weekend (plus it wasn't drawing me in nearly as much as the Mercy books did).
Cinema Cafe Podcost - I completely agree - it is a very captivating book, just not the easiest book to read if you only get to read it a little bit at a time. It might be one of those where I read one book when I just have a little bit of time and read that one when I have a larger amount of time for reading. Apparently, I should have waited until the middle of July when I'll be less busy to start this one...
Oh, I do hope you get to go back to Cry Wolf. I just loved that book - there were some very sweet moments :) I'm hanging out for the sequel - Hunting Ground!
Orannia - I'm sure I'll get back to Cry Wolf at some point - after only reading the prologue and chapter one, I didn't give it much of a chance. Although I seem to be a little weird about reading books in the same universe with different characters since I almost always seem to prefer the first main protagonist. I loved Mercy's voice in the other series (the first book was the only one that took longer than the first chapter to get me interested so I suppose I should definitely give this one more of a chance too).
I haven't had much time for reading lately... Probably won't until after I get back from Vegas. I need to work more on that review I started over the weekend too!
