New Inside the Blogosphere

Part Two of the newest version of Inside the Blogosphere is up over at Grasping for the Wind. (So is Part One, but I'm in Part Two so that's the one that counts.)

For those who don't know, Inside the Blogosphere is a series in which a question is posed to various bloggers and each of them writes a response. The question for this one is: If you could live in an SF/Fantasy/Horror world, in which one would you live? Why?

This was an amazingly easy question for me to answer since I would love to live in The Culture universe created by Iain M. Banks. It was interesting to read what everyone had to say and now I have some new books I need to check out, particularly the Riverworld series and the novel Implied Spaces. So what about everyone else? What fictional world would you want to live in and why?

Oh, I'm intrigued by your answer Kristen as you've picked a universe that is not from your two favourite series (although I'm not sure how comfortable I would be in Melusine :)

Hmmmm. Hard question. My best friend and I once spent a whole school camp hoping to find a Rift into Midkemia (Raymond E Feist). I think...(so hard)...that I would have to pick the Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling Earth, because I would love to meet a Changeling *grin* But I'm going to think on it some more on the way home :)

Orannia - A lot of the places I find interesting to read about aren't worlds I would want to live in. The Culture is definitely one I would want to live in, though. It sounds so peaceful and carefree not to have to worry about so many of the everyday concerns that exist in this world.

I haven't read either of the books you mentioned. What is it about them that appeals to you?

That makes sense :) I don't know if I'd want to live in Midkemia if I'm honest - most of the books they spend fighting various wars :) It was just that part of the world building included rifts...and my best friend and I (who both read the series in our teens) used to wish we could find a rift and go visiting :)

As for Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling Earth...I'd love to meet a Changeling :) They are absolutely fascinating. And, although there are power struggles occuring, those who inhabit this Earth do so in an environmentally friendly way...I love all the great inventions.

If I'm really honest...I'd like to visit lots of worlds :)

Orannia - I hear you. A lot of the books I liked were ruled out as places I'd like to live due to lots of wars or dangers. They make for an exciting story but aren't necessarily my idea of fun settings.

Nalini Singh's series does sound good. I'll have to check it out sometime.

I really enjoyed reading all the answers, in both parts! My rational choice would also be an advanced, enlightened society that hasn't gone post-human yet (not left the human body behind entirely).

I also want to say - New Crobuzon, the city of Perdido Street Station. As unpleasant as it might be, it was also grand and glorious and the most real CITY I've read about. It connected to me.

Anastasia - Glad you enjoyed both parts! Questions like that one are a lot of fun to think about and I enjoyed reading everyone's answers too (and finding yet more books that I must check out).

That reminds me I really must read Perdido Street Station at some point. It's another one I have (signed even) but haven't read - I seem to say that an awful lot.
