New Poll

Sometime in June, I want to read a book by an author who is new to me and has had a book sitting unread on my shelf for at least a year. I'm not sure which one to choose, though, so I made a poll for it. The poll will stay open until I finish The Silver Metal Lover and either Busted Flush or The Last Argument of Kings.

The options are:

J.V. Jones - A Cavern of Black Ice
Catherynne Valente - The Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden
Laura Resnick - In Legend Born
John Varley - Titan
Tim Powers - The Anubis Gates

Which one do you want me to read and review sometime in June?

This morning I did finish my May book (hard science fiction), The Mote in God's Eye by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. It took a long time to get going and I almost put it down a few times, but once it got going it was good and I ended up glad I stuck with it. I need to do some laundry and make a birthday cake so I'm not sure I'll get to review it today, but hopefully I'll get to review it sometime over the next week.

New Poll

I haven't had a what-to-read next poll in a little while and it's kind of fun to let you all make my hard decisions for me, so I put up a new one. The choices are:

Crystal Rain by Tobias Buckell
His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik
Skyfall by Catherine Asaro
Ink and Steel by Elizabeth Bear

I'll read the winner once I finish reading Revelation Space and Young Miles (I'm going to start the latter because although Revelation Space is good, it has more description than my brain can focus on this particular week).

Work has been kind of hectic lately, and I've put in almost 10 extra hours so far this week, so I've been a bit too brain dead to actually get caught up on reviews when I have had a bit of time. I'm hoping to get at least one up this weekend, though. Next up is the Malazan novella Blood Follows, which I reread recently.

What to read next?

I'm having a problem deciding what to read after I finish my current book so I added another poll for which book to read and review next. Plus seeing what people choose is fun!

There are 5 fantasy books to choose from since I've been on a science fiction kick lately and I don't want to annoy you all by reading too many non-fantasy books on a book review blog that claims to be about fantasy.

The options are:

Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie (#2 First Law Trilogy)
Blood and Iron by Elizabeth Bear (#1 Promethean Age)
Calenture by Storm Constantine (stand alone)
Hood by Stephen Lawhead (#1 King Raven)
The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson (#2 Mistborn)

New Poll

Since I've been indecisive lately, I put up a poll on what to read and review after Mistborn: The Final Empire. Feel free to leave suggestions not on that list as comments here and if enough people want me to read something else, I may be convinced to do so (as long as it's something I actually have - I don't think I should buy any more books right now since I got a bunch around Christmas and made two orders in the last month). Speculative fiction books I own are all listed in my librarything account and unread books are in my goodreads account (both are linked on the right toward the bottom under "Networks").
