Elizabeth Bear Interview
Thanks to Joe from Adventures in Reading, I came across this interview with Elizabeth Bear over at tor.com. She's one of my favorite authors and I thought this was a great interview covering topics such as her books and what she's working on, how her background influences her writing, her author inspirations and diversity in speculative fiction. Reading this did make me sad that I still have a couple of books that I haven't read by her (as well as a few books by her that are missing from my collection).

I've never read anything by Elizabeth Bear. I want to, but I'm not sure what her good stuff is. Could you recommend one I should start with?
Thank you Kristen (and Joe :) Am off to read it to see what there is about the sequel to A Companion to Wolves!
Sarah - As she mentioned in the interview, it really depends on what you're looking for - she has a wide variety of books. I haven't read them all yet, but I have enjoyed every single book of hers I have read - A Companion to Wolves(co-written with another of my favorites, Sarah Monette), The Promethean Age books and the two Edda of Burdens novels. I have reviewed all of these and they can be found on the review index.
My personal favorite is By the Mountain Bound, the second Edda of Burdens book and a prequel to the first instead of a sequel. Those are inspired by Norse mythology. (One of the things I love about her books I've read is how much mythology she puts into them.)
The Promethean Age books are split into two duologies set in the same world at different times. The one beginning with Blood and Iron is set in modern times. Ink and Steel is the first book in the second duology, which takes place in Elizabethan England and features Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare.
Or if you want epic fantasy, there's always A Companion to Wolves.
Orannia - Oh yes, I was glad to see some news on the sequel! They should be turning it in soon - I can't wait to read it! I'm also excited about The Sea Thy Mistress and was thrilled to see she'll be starting a high fantasy series. She's so prolific - I can't believe just how much she writes in a short amount of time.
